Hi there,

Let me tell you about my homestay here in Chestnut Hill, a peaceful neighborhood surrounded by nature yet close to Boston.

My home is close to the Chestnut Hill Station, which is on the Green Line of the MBTA, about a ten-minute walk from here. The ride on the Green Line is about 20 minutes from the downtown and Longwood areas of Boston.

Within cycling and walking distance of my home are several supermarkets, upscale malls, movie theatres, and other shops. I live in an area that is surrounded by golf courses, parks, streams, and lakes. There are a lot of places to go jogging or walking. As you can see in the pictures, I have two dogs who enjoy outings in the nearby parks. In the summer I love to take my guests to Crystal Lake to swim or just enjoy nature. Sometimes we take a picnic to a park in the evening as the sun goes down.... sometimes we have a barbeque in the back yard, or build a fire in the fire pit, or just relax outside in the garden.

Since I have lived in France, Germany, Taiwan, and Japan, I like to cook many different types of cuisines. Often guests here teach the rest of us how to prepare their favourite dishes from their countries, which is really fun!

In terms of rules for the house, we try to have it relatively quiet after about 9 or 10 pm so that people can sleep or study. Most people are here to study, and I notice that many times people sit at the dinning room table with their laptops and study together. However, there are exceptions: last night (Friday), all of the guests held a dinner party, I made a caramel chocolate cake, and they were still up laughing and sitting around the kitchen table when I went to bed!

In terms of laundry, guests leave their clothes they want washed in a bag next to the laundry room and I do it for them. Everyone here is responsible for keeping his or her own room and bathroom neat. Once a week we have cleaning time, and everyone helps. Then we usually go out and do something fun together.

As for my home, you would have a bedroom with a bed, desk, bookshelves, and so forth, with access to a toilet, shower, washer and drier. You can see pictures of the bedrooms and the rest of the house on the site.

This homestay is like a family, and the people who have stayed here share a lot of interesting experiences with each other, like going on ski trips, kayaking, visiting museums, concerts, whale watching, and inviting friends. We help each other with English homework and research projects. We teach each other Origami and how to make French salad. It's a great chance to meet so many wonderful people from around the world.
